The honorary member (Patron/Matron) is an individual of appropriate standing who is nominated and invited to hold the position by the decision of the General Meeting, serving as a high-level representative of APSTA for a period of three years, non-renewable. The position was institutionalised in 2005, and rotates on regional basis. The APSTA honorary members are:
=> 2005-2013: HE General Alhaji Abdusalaam Abubakar, GCFR, CSN, Former Head of State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
=> 2013-2016: Ambassador Soad Shalaby, former Director of the CCCPA, and currently an International Cooperation Advisor to the National Council for Women of Egypt.
=>2017- 2019: Ambassador Bethuel Abdu Kiplagat, is the Chairman of the COMESA Committee of Elders since 2011, and is currently engaged in the Burundi Peace Process with the East African Community. Since 1992, he has been serving as a Senior Consultant & Advisor on Peace and Conflict Resolution, and has also been the Director of the Africa Peace Forum (APFO) since 1994.
