On 29 July 2017 the Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Centre (NAPKC) officially was renamed as the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre (MLAILPKC). Additionally, the Secretariat has been informed about the departure of Brigadier General Adamu M. Dauda as Commandant of the MLAILPKC. The newly appointed Commandant, Brigadier General OF Azinta, relieves him.
As a Centre, the now Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre MLAILPKC/NAPKC gained autonomy in 2009. Its mission in relation to Peace Support Operations (PSO) is to enhance the quality of Nigerian peacekeepers, through the delivery of PSO training packages to potential UN and regional peacekeepers. This initiative has helped prepare troops for complex multidimensional challenges of contemporary PSOs.
The MLAILPKC gained membership of the Association at the 7th APSTA Annual General Meeting, which was hosted by the African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD), in Durban, South Africa, from 18-19 February 2010.
On behalf of the membership of APSTA, the Secretariat would like to bid the outgoing Commandant, Brigadier General Adamu M. Dauda, a hearty farewell and, in turn, warmly welcome the incoming Commandant, Brigadier General OF Azinta. The Association remains hopeful that the MLAILPKC, under its new leadership, will continue to build upon the work of Brigadier General Adamu M. Dauda, towards the achievement of the vision and mission of the Association.
