Summary
The 5th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the African Peace Support Trainers Association (APSTA) was held at the Kofi Annan International Peace Training Centre (KAIPTC) in Accra, Ghana, on 28 August 2006.
The AGM provided an opportunity to review the Association’s performance and map out strategies to move it forward and make it more relevant to the AU and Regional Economic Communities (RECs), especially in terms of the establishment of the African Standby Force (ASF) and peace operations generally.
Among other decisions, the APSTA accepted an invitation from the African Union to support the establishment of the ASF, and play host to the 14th Conference of the International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centre (IAPTC) in 2008.
The keynote address at the AGM was delivered by HE General AA Abubakar, GCFR, CSG, Former Head of State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Presidency of the Association (Rear Admiral AAM Isa) will be held by the National War College of Nigeria (NWCN), from 2006 to 2007, after Major General JK Attipoe stepped down after serving a full term from 2005 to 2006. The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) continues to serve as the Association’s Secretariat from 2006 to 2007.
