The AU Peace Support Operations Division (PSOD) will be conducting an AU ASF Police Dimension Workshop (APDW) in Algiers, Algeria, from 18-20 October 2008. The Workshop provides a historic platform for building upon the outcomes of previous ASF processes, by deliberating on the management structures, training design and rostering of key police capacities for the AU ASF. Its outcomes will include specific, practicable recommendations aiming at operationalising the police component of the ASF at all levels.
Participation in the Workshop involves the AU PSOD; key African Regional Economic Communities (RECs)/Mechanisms and regional ASF structures, including African centres of peacekeeping excellence and peacekeeping training providers; the African Peace Support Trainers Association (APSTA); and partners. The Workshop is being collaboratively organised by the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), which serves as the permanent Secretariat of the APSTA.
